Healthcare
Every South Dakotan should have access to free or affordable healthcare.
I will fight to ensure rural areas have the money needed to keep their local healthcare facilities not only up and running but ensure that they are thriving.
The massive legislation passed by the federal government in 2025 cut the money that South Dakota was receiving for Medicare and Medicaid subsidies.
This money is not just used to assist people with healthcare costs, but also to help keep rural healthcare facilities open.
According to the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) 20% of hospitals in South Dakota ran in the negative margin before the ACA cuts.
Rural hospitals will close as a result of this bill if we don't find a way to fund these facilities.
We need to supplement these dollars or an estimated 20,000 South Dakotans will become uninsured. (Findings from a 2025 KFF analysis)
I believe medical decisions should be made between a medical professional and the patient, not legislation.
