<h2 style="text-align: center;">Young, Passionate, Pro-Worker</h2><h4>The question I get asked the most after I tell someone I am running for office is: "Why?" My motivation to become a politician can be explained by an adage that has been worded many different ways throughout history, but this is my favorite version: "A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in". I turned 30 in 2025, I am among the first generation of Americans who will come of age in a worse position than their parents <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/11/politics/millennials-income-stalled-upward-mobility-us" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">(Luhby 2020)</a>. The reason my generation is falling behind is not because of <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2017/05/15/news/millennials-home-buying-avocado-toast" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">avocado toast or daily coffees</a>, it is because the deck has been stacked against us either intentionally or not. <a href="https://www.federalreserve.gov/releases/z1/dataviz/dfa/distribute/table/#quarter:144;series:Net%20worth;demographic:networth;population:9;units:shares;range:1989.3,2025.3" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">According to the Federal Reserve</a> in Q3 of 2025 68.1% of all wealth in the United States was held by the top 10% wealthiest Americans, 14.4% of which is held by top .1%, the highest it has been since the Federal Reserve began tracking this data in 1989. It is my belief that very few politicians want to plant the metaphorical trees for the next generations, instead they line their pockets as the ultra wealthy chop down the forests with no regard for the shade future generations will need. I want every person to have a real chance at the American dream, no matter where they come from, who they pray or don't pray to, or how they look. My politics are simple, I am pro-education, pro-worker's rights, pro Medicare for All, anti-oligarch, and anti-fascists. These should not be radical positions, but in 2026 in the United States they are. It is time we fight back against the elite ruling class in this nation and in this state and begin to claw back worker protections and basic human rights. If you believe that South Dakota should work for South Dakotans and not the ultra wealthy who want to use the state as a tax haven, if you believe that medical decisions should be made between a person and their doctor, and if you believe that a better South Dakota is possible then I hope you will support me in this campaign.</h4>

<ul><li>South Dakota has the 6th most regressive state and local tax system in the country.</li><li>The high sales and excise taxes impact the state's less affluent residents far more than the state's most affluent.​<ul><li>The poorest 20% of South Dakota taxpayers face the 17th highest state and local tax burden in the entire country at 11.4% share of family income​</li><li>The top 1% of South Dakota taxpayers (avg income of $1,860,100) only pay 2.6% of their family income in total taxes, this is the lowest rate in the nation.</li></ul></li><li>I will fight to implement a tax system that is more equitable​​ for more South Dakotans, instead of our current system that allows the ultra wealthy to use the state as a tax haven.<ul><li>This will include, but will not be limited to, a luxury tax, a wealth tax, and a corporate tax that matches our closest neighbors.</li><li>Doing this will allow us to lower property and sales tax rates while still funding all the programs we currently fund.</li></ul></li></ul>

South Dakota's current tax system does not help the average South Dakotan. South Dakota has the 6th most regressive tax system in the nation. A regressive tax is a tax that takes a larger percentage of income from low-income earners than from high-income earners. Its time we built a tax system that benefits South Dakotans and not the ultra-weathy using South Dakota as a tax haven.

South Dakota's Tax Problem

<ul><li>Every South Dakotan should have access to free or affordable healthcare.</li><li>I will fight to ensure rural areas have the money needed to keep their local healthcare facilities not only up and running but ensure that they are thriving.<ul><li>The massive legislation passed by the federal government in 2025 cut the money that South Dakota was receiving for Medicare and Medicaid subsidies.​</li><li>This money is not just used to assist people with healthcare costs, but also to help keep rural healthcare facilities open.<ul><li>According to the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) 20% of hospitals in South Dakota ran in the negative margin before the ACA cuts.​</li><li>Rural hospitals will close as a result of this bill if we don't find a way to fund these facilities.</li></ul></li><li>We need to supplement these dollars or an estimated 20,000 South Dakotans will become uninsured. (Findings from a 2025 KFF analysis)</li></ul></li><li>I believe medical decisions should be made between a medical professional and the patient, not legislation.</li></ul>

Every South Dakotan should have access to free or affordable healthcare. I am proud to say I am strong supporter of Medicare for All. While I know that isn't something I can get done at a state level, I mention it so that you don't have to guess where I stand on attempts to further strip away South Dakotan's access to Medicare and Medicaid.

<ul><li>Every South Dakotan should have access to high quality free public education.<ul><li>I will fight for drastic increases to ​public education funds to ensure we are attracting and keeping the best teachers to teach in this state.</li><li>If public funds are going to private institutions, then those institutions need to have public oversight, just like their free public counterparts.</li></ul></li><li>If we want our children to succeed in school, we must invest in their success.​<ul><li>I will continue to fight for free school meals at our public schools<ul><li>According to the <a href="https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8431639/#sec5-ijerph-18-08990" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">National Library of Medicine</a>, "The strongest evidence of an effect of food insecurity has been found in academic/cognitive outcomes and externalizing behaviors"<ul><li>According to No Kid Hungry, 10% and 11% of children are food insecure in Union and Clay County respectively.</li></ul></li></ul></li></ul></li></ul>

The public school system is the backbone of society. Our public education is not failing our state, our state is failing our public education system. Legislatures have failed to meet the annual increase of 3% or inflation, whichever is less, an increase that is required by law. This needs to change.

<ul><li>Abolish "Right-To-Work" and ensure businesses are properly punished for union busting.</li><li>Establish a minimum living wage indexed to inflation, and eliminate subminimum wage exemptions</li><li>Paid family medical leave (FMLA) for all workers</li><li>Pass wage transparency laws that require employers to disclose salary ranges in job postings and prohibit retaliation against workers who discuss compensation.</li><li>Ensure that the current workforce is protected against the implementation of AI as a replacement for the labor pool.</li><li>Fight against the effort to dissolve the current child labor standards.</li></ul>

For far too long South Dakotans have been working with limited worker protections and the threat of being fired without reason. Right-to-Work was created with the specific purpose of busting unions and ensuring a "Sword of Damocles" of being fired was always present over the head of workers who were thinking about organizing their workplaces.
